LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lots of rock stars play video games. But Sonny Sandoval, lead singer of multi-platinum
rock band P.O.D., has become an investor in Gamecaster Inc. He also has been named music director of the gaming events
company, and will perform as on-camera talent.
The company has plans to turn video game competitions into a spectator sport franchise with a high profile on television,
online and in the physical world. The first official event is scheduled for Aug. 24 in P.O.D.'s San Diego hometown.
David MacIntosh, president and CEO of Gamecaster, said Sandoval will be responsible for developing the company's music
program, which includes the use of popular bands to perform at Gamecaster's upcoming televised video game competitions.
Without disclosing his financial arrangement with the self-funded company, Sandoval said he believes being part of
Gamecaster is a good business move.
An avid gamer himself, he also has first-hand knowledge of competitive gaming's potential as a major sport. "Music and
video games go hand in hand," Sandoval said. "We were just out on tour with Linkin Park, and they're big Halo fans --
they had two screens hooked up on their tour bus, so they can compete with each other, and they always had about 20 people
watching."
P.O.D. always has video games in their dressing rooms as well, Sandoval said. In addition, when on tour the band members
often take on their fans in bouts arranged by local radio stations as a competition prize.
The Gamecaster spectacle will center on a dramatic slowly rotating circular platform, upon which gamers will compete in a
winner-takes-all tournament while giant screens beam the action to the venue audience. Live music, a product licensing
program designed by Bill Attinger of Scribbles Properties, and other lifestyle-related activities will all be part of the
mix. Television audiences and webcast audiences each will get an experience tailored to their medium.
"We're out to prove that people will tune in or come live to watch," MacIntosh said. "Television didn't think poker would
work, either."
MacIntosh said the broadcasts will be "an exciting spectator experience, much more than just over-the-shoulder shots of
somebody playing," with experienced sports cameramen and a proprietary technology that gives viewers the perspective of
actually being inside the game.
Besides shaping the live music aspect of the traveling event, Sandoval has signed up as on-air talent in the role of Pit
Reporter. He will provide color commentary and interviews with the competitors, helping to build the excitement and develop
the human drama, MacIntosh said.
"Sonny is charismatic and recognized as a positive person, a clean and sober person with a family, so people like him and
identify with him," he said. "People will tune in to watch Sonny in a new and interesting environment."
Sandoval said he will be getting his personal network of professional musicians to participate as well, starting with his
cousin Noah "Wuv" Bernardo -- who happens to be P.O.D.'s drummer.

Last week, Sonny and Wuv flew to New York where they were interviewed
by legendary 60 Minutes correspondent, Bob Simon.
New York wasn’t all work, as Sonny found time to catch
the Giants opening day game.

In August P.O.D. headlined the “Rock The Desert” festival in Texas.
This is one of the best festivals and best group of people we have
ever worked with.
P.O.D. were originally scheduled to play on Saturday the 21st,
but a wind storm caused the festival to shut down.
All of the other artists had to cancel and go home, but P.O.D.
were so moved by the RTD staff that they re-scheduled everything
to stay for the next night. (Sunday)

huge night and the RTD staff were amazing.

For guitar enthusiasts and P.O.D. collectors, this record will blow your mind.
Truby is truly one of the most extraordinary guitarists in Rock... I mean, what
Rock guitar player releases a record like this?? It’s crazy...

Jason Truby—String Theory
To say that the guitar is a passion for Jason Truby is an understatement of epic proportions. Though his scorching
electric work can be heard driving the crushing sounds of the multi-platinum P.O.D., he’s amazingly most at home with the
gentle, intimate strains of an acoustic guitar. And in the case of his new solo outing, String Theory, nineteen acoustic
guitars! So much for intimacy! Yet this album is very personal. At times, you’ll feel that you’re alone in the room with
Truby as he coaxes soaring melodies and lush textures from whatever set of six strings he happens to be wielding at
the moment.
“This album,” Truby explains, “is a chance to freely express my love for music on the guitar without the
boundaries or constraints of the mainstream market. It’s an _expression of who I am without using words—a communication
from the spirit.”
Truby backs up a moment and adds, “Music has always been a vital part of my life—not just a living. Along
the way I’ve made good friends, which happens when you struggle with people and miss meals together. And among these
friends were my buddies in P.O.D. In February of ’03, when their guitarist left the band, they called me in. My friends
needed help and I was available, and becoming a part of P.O.D. was a great opportunity. And it’s because of my band mates
that I was able to write my own acoustic album, which has been my passion all these years. And when you’re playing
acoustically, it’s just you and the instrument. Nothing is hidden. It’s pure and honest.”
But don’t be misled—passive this record is not. “I hope,” says Truby, “that this music challenges, calms,
provokes, soothes, enlightens, encourages, heals, brings hope, creates an atmosphere, serves as a reminder of who we are
as a people, and allows for a time out from the hectic world.” Still, if there is a central theme to the project, it’s
about finding peace in the midst of struggle. And for those who prefer not to take their music so seriously, Truby’s
okay with that, too. “Just let this music take you where it will. You can peel back the layers or just listen passively.
Either way, I hope it reflects what I’m trying to reveal.”
Yet Truby can be somewhat less than revealing when it comes to the music’s deep, inner core. But here’s a
hint: the CD’s art offers a few breadcrumbs along the trail. “I like for discoveries to happen for those who are looking
for the hidden things,” he leads. “Is there symbolism in this project? You tell me.”
Perhaps the biggest puzzle, though, is how this album came to be at all; it couldn’t possibly be more
different than the band’s most recent release, Payable on Death. “But that’s just the point,” says Truby. “This project
would not have happened if not for P.O.D. We each have our role in the band, and mine is guitar. I actually hint at the
progressions as much as possible in the P.O.D. material. And with the song, Eternal, closing the last album, it leads
right into this project. It just adds to the big picture that is P.O.D. There’s more to us than meets the eye.”
Truby also credits the guitars themselves for their role in the compositional process. “I used nineteen
guitars on this album, and each one served a very important part in capturing a unique texture or color. I think the
variety of guitars brought more out of me, and made the creative process a freer experience. I tend to compose in the
moment, and this album is full of spontaneous moments, many of which were performed freeform, on the spot, which gives
the record a dangerous edge at times. But there were also things that I brought back from the past. The best moments,
though, happen when I get out of the way and let the songs come out on their own. And the sound we got in the studio
didn’t hurt, either. We used a very unusual miking technique that allowed me hear and react to the music as though I were
standing right in front of myself listening. It was truly top notch sound.”
Truby muses that time will tell if any of this record will be performed live with P.O.D. “In any case,”
he says, “this project has opened a door of exploration going into the next P.O.D. album. I certainly hope our fans will
enjoy it.”

I don't know if Sonny will ever see this or if anyone even bothers to read these things, but if you do, please tell
Sonny that he saved a life. I was deeply suicidal. I was about to slash my wrist, but felt that I had to go on the net
one last time. I went to a lyric site, and just typed in "Run" for some reason...I just knew that I needed to. I clicked
on P.O.D.'s and read it over and over for almost an hour. Then I put the blade away and got help. I would not be here today
if it weren't for P.O.D. If Sonny or someone else in the band could write back to me, I would really appreciate it. I do
understand though, if nothing comes. May the Lord be with you all, P.O.D. You guys rock!

Many of you have already been hearing rumblings about this....
Sonny spoke with mtv news about this last week.
* * * P.O.D. and Glen Ballard start work on their 6th studio release spanning a 13-year career * * *
On tuesday, p.o.d. entered the studio with 5-time grammy award winner glen ballard.
For the past five months p.o.d. have been writing and demo-ing material. it's been a powerful creative journey that
started in san diego, and then to palm springs, san francisco, back to san diego and now to l.a.
P.O.D. met with glen several weeks ago to play their demos. it was a bit of a long shot, but glen loved the material
and re-arranged his schedule to be involved.
P.O.D. have said for months now that the record will be done when it's the best of their career. (read: when it’s right)

Last week Sonny and Wuv flew to New York to present 6 songs from their upcoming
record, TESTIFY to the Atlantic Records staff!!
Sonny and Wuv stood up in front of the executive staff at Atlantic Records and shared
about their faith and vision to continue bringing their message to the world.
In the meeting Sonny said, ‘I believe in Jesus Christ. I will never back down from my faith...
We know that no matter what happens, our name is good on the streets. You can ask anyone and we are good with the people
in the streets. We do this in a
way that even our own kids will look back and be proud.’
One of the executives pointed out in the meeting that P.O.D.’s “Warrior email list”
(yes, this list) has actually gone UP since the last album! Remaining one of the largest and most active fan bases. And
our registered forum users is approaching
30,000!
We are family and we stay connected - with or without a new record.
So, once again here we are with a new P.O.D. record. Many of us have followed the band since the beginning. The world can
not understand how P.O.D.
have been around for 13 years, sold nearly 7 million records, major tours around the world, the 3 #1 MTV TRL videos, #1
Radio singles,
SNL/Leno/Letterman/Stern, etc. They don’t understand our decisions... to walk by faith and not by sight.
This is about passion, about conviction, about seeing a change in our friends, in our
families, and in our selves. It hasn’t been easy. There has been sacrifice, but also reward.
If you believe this earth is heaven, you better live it up. Otherwise, join with us for the
big vision.
Our numbers continue to grow because our friendships continue to grow.
You don’t mess with family.

Where to start.......
From the beginning of this process, P.O.D. have had one goal: TO MAKE THE
RECORD OF OUR CAREER. Now, this sounds easy enough on paper, but in
practice.... READ ON.
This is our 6th studio release over a 13-year career. We’ve been very fortunate
and now join a very short list of bands that have had a career. We have a catalog
of music that we want to respect and honor with each step into the future.
It’s a process of pushing yourself and your band mates... listening for God, going
through the fire, and reaching for that pure inspired moment. And somewhere along
the way it connects and you know you have been given something special.
Until then it’s just another rock ‘n roll song.
For P.O.D. this journey started in our hometown of San Diego. On Sept. 21st,
2004 we entered our rehearsal studio to knock around some ideas.
* * * Oct. 4th - 21st * * *
We worked for two weeks and decided we wanted to get away from everything
and keep writing. So, we headed to Palm Springs and rented a house where we
set up all of our gear and lived in the music 24 hours a day.
Every morning we would get up and ‘momma sonny’ (as we’d call him) would cook
up some breakfast. That’s keepin’ it REAL!
* * * Nov. 3rd - Dec. 21st * * *
We headed home for a few days and then decided to rent another house in Palm Springs
to continue what was becoming a very exciting creative process. This time we stayed even
longer about TWO months. It could have had something to do with the house.....
Once again we were able to spread out and work on music 24 hours a day.....

Our buddy Travis Wyrick stopped by to help us start demoing songs. Travis is THE MAN and is rising star as a producer/mixer.
He turned our Palm Springs
mansion into a first class recording studio. We had amps in closets, Sonny did vocals in a lower level bedroom. It was
crazy... Chords and road cases everywhere...
music constantly being played in every room.
At the end of these sessions we had about a dozen songs and lots more in the works.
Dec. 22nd - we headed home to celebrate Christmas with our families. It was good to have the break, to digest the new
songs and get a sense of where the
creative process was taking us.
Jan. 11th, 2005 - We met back up to begin a few weeks of pre-production at our
rehearsal studio in San Diego. We began working with engineer Greg Fidelman,
who we had high hopes would step up as a co-producer. It seemed like an
interesting idea to bring him in and have someone help critique the material.
During pre-production the demos didn’t change much and we were starting to
feel that the magic of the Palm Springs sessions was slipping away.
Needless to say, we booked studio time at The Plant Studios in Sausalito
(San Franciso-area). It’s one of those cool legendary studios where Metallica,
Primus, Dave Mathews Band, and others have recorded.
Jan. 29th - We drove to Sausalito with plans to begin tracking on Jan. 31st.
The studio had some technical problems the first few days which resulted in
everyone feeling the “vibe” was slipping away even more. Eventually the studio
worked out the bugs (it’s a great studio and the owner, Arne is terrific). We
started re-tracking the demos that had from Palm Springs. We found ourselves
spinning our wheels and wondering if we were headed down the wrong path to
complete the record.
Day by day, our engineer and studio were not getting along and since we were
getting very little direction, things began to get depressing. We missed the fun
of the Palm Springs sessions and the energy of working with Wyrick.
A lot of time was spent doing this (SEE BELOW) rather than working as a team
to be creative. (“Sir chill” trying to take Sonny out........)
Feb. 17th - we finished out our session at The Plant with nothing more than we had
from our Palm Springs sessions... and our label and management wondering what
we did the whole time. This was frustrating.
Feb. 21st - Within a few days, we ended up back in San Diego at Signature Studios.
It felt good to be back in San Diego and we thought that being home would get the
record back on track.
Unfortunately, we ended up no further ahead.
March 14th - John Rubeli (A&R - Atlantic Records) and Tim Cook (Manager - Cook
Management) stepped in and suggested that we stop the process, get all of our songs
together, and take some time off to listen. So, that’s what we did. We all went our
separate ways and spent the next several weeks living with the material.
Everyone felt that the demos were great, but after much discussion we concluded that
there’s a big difference between great and amazing.
The question now was how to get there........
Early on in the process our Manager was big on the idea of us working with Glen Ballard.
To put it perspective, Glen is one of the most successful producers and songwriters in history.
He’s sold over 150 million records, not to mention the numerous Grammy’s and other awards.
(Alanis Morissette, Dave Mathews Band, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, No Doubt)
P.O.D. and Glen Ballard seemed like a LONG shot on many levels.
Remarkably, the in road to Glen Ballard came from our attorney and John Rubeli having
lunch one day. Our attorney knew Glen’s mgr and offered to help open up a dialogue.
Glen asked to hear demos and said he’d get back with us, if interested. Shortly after
receiving the demos, he asked if we could stop by one of his studios in L.A. for a meeting.
April 12th - we drove to L.A. to meet up with Glen. He said he loved the songs and felt
that we were onto something. He wanted to be part of what we were doing and opened
up his calendar to work with us immediately.
We connected in a big way and there was no question to anyone that this had the makings of an extraordinary partnership.
We sent Glen all of our demos and set a start date of May 3rd.
From day one working with Glen was a magical experience. His humility, creative
ideas, work ethic, studio environment - it all inspired us and lifted the songs to the
next level. He has tremendous concern for the craft and for each detail. Each day,
Glen arrived at the studio BEFORE us and was there AFTER we left. He never
interrupted our time to take a phone call... in fact, we never saw him on the phone
once! He never had a bad word or negative attitude about anything. The sessions
were strictly about being positive and capturing the most powerful creative moment.
We wished we could stay there and never leave. Even when people stopped by to
visit, they got caught up in it and didn’t want to leave. It was incredible.
Every night Glen had a dinner served for all of us “family style.” We had a beautiful
time breaking bread with our brothers and sisters.
Four weeks into the session, we had a song that we thought would be cool for upcoming reggae artist, Matisyahu to guest on.
Sonny called Matis who was on
vacation in Israel and he said he’d love to be on the track.
Sometimes in this business you get one of those rare moments where a track
just becomes so much more than you expected. This was one of those times. As the track progressed throughout the day you
could just feel that this was a special moment in time. “Roots In Stereo” was born. The room was buzzing.
(What you don’t know yet is that we ended up having Matis on a
second song as well! A worship song....”Strength of My Life”)
Day after day Glen was just beaming with excitement as to what was being
birthed. We couldn’t wait to get to the studio and didn’t want to leave at the
end of the night. You just felt alive being there.
Glen became the coach that we needed to guide this album to it’s destination.
It was an unexpected gift from God.
We’re calling this album TESTIFY. When you get the record we believe you’ll
be getting a bottle of that amazing fire we experienced throughout making this
record.

As of today, we are putting the finishing touches on the record. Artwork and the
discovering of great art is always a high priority for us. We introduced you to the
surrealist artwork of Jean Jacques Bastarache (“TFEOS”), the photography of Jill
Greenberg (“Satellite”), and the paintings of Daniel Martin Diaz (“Payable On Death”).
With “TESTIFY” we are already talking to some artists that will match the intensity
of this record.

To bring everyone up to speed.....
Recently blindside did a label deal with DRT Entertainment in New York. Derek Shulman,
who owns DRT signed them in partnership with blindside’s new label, Wasa Recordings.
(Those shrewd little Swedes!)
You may be familiar with Mr. Shulman who has an impressive track record in finding talent.
(Pantera, Bon Jovi, Slipknot, AC/DC). Derek spent months chasing after blindside feeling
that were that next special find in his career.
So.... last night we were able to see the FIRST edit of their new video & single,
“Fell in love with the Game.” This is NOT a completed version and we’re probably
going to get into some heat for sharing this edit with the ‘few’ people on this list... but
that’s what we do... we take care of our people.
