P.O.D. on the Return of the Rock Tour, 2000

I just saw P.O.D. on MTV's Return of the Rock Tour at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. I was stoked by the experience that I have to tell you about it! It was a sold out show with most of the people there to see P.O.D. or Staind. The opening two acts (Crazy Town and Dope) did their part by really getting the crowd pumped up. As P.O.D. was getting ready to take the stage I could not believe what happened…the crowd started chanting P.O.D.! P.O.D.! P.O.D.! It was the loudest reaction that a band would get for the night. You could just feel the place was about to blow up! The guys opened the set with OUTKAST and the place went absolutely nuts. Not only was the pit jumpin' but the whole crowd was singing along with Sonny. When I finished taking pictures I jumped into the pit myself. I could not believe how infectious the energy was that the guys were puttin' out and how the crowd was responding to them…it was so dope! I was floored by the number of people in the crowd who knew every word of every song and by how many people were screaming for them to play old school cuts like SELAH and FULL COLOR (they did play DRAW THE LINE.)

After the show I was talking to Traa and the others and was surprised by the people who would stop or walk by were responding to them. They were saying things like "P.O.D. was the best band all night long." Or, "They had only heard a couple of their cuts but were going to have to but F.E.O.S." The thing that I thought was the coolest was how many people would tell the guys that "They really dug their message." Or, "You guys got a really positive message…not preachy…that's cool." The difference between P.O.D. and the other bands was obvious to everyone at the show. It just goes to show how Our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed the band and how they continue to return the honor and the glory back to Him. They are truly living out the message that our Lord gives in Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before all men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
